Congenital Heart DiseaseSigns & SymptomsSome babies and children may experience symptoms while others may not. In those cases where symptoms are observed, the general signs and symptoms of congenital heart disease include: 1. Recurrent lung infections. 2. Rapid breathing or shortness of breath. 3. Fatigue or tiredness. In older children fatigue with exercise. 4. Poor appetite and poor weight gain. 5. Sweating during feeding. 6. Diminished strength of pulse in the baby. 7. A bluish tinge or color known as cyanosis to the skin around the mouth, lips and tongue. (25, 26)
