Signs & Symptoms

Some of the common symptoms of hemorrhoids include:

  • Traces of blood in the stool or on the toilet paper after wiping.
  • Incomplete bowel movements.
  • Rectal itching.
  • Feeling of a soft lump at the anal opening (6).
Internal Hemorrhoids:
Some of the symptoms of internal hemorrhoids include:
  • Internal hemorrhoids swell and protrude through the rectum and are painful.
  • Hemorrhoids can be felt at anus and can be pushed, but on swelling may be trapped outside the anus.
  • Patient may develop itching in the anus with a condition called pruritus ani (8).
 

External Hemorrhoids:

  • In external hemorrhoids, blood may pool under the skin forming a hard, painful lump and the condition is called thrombosed hemorrhoid.
  • Pain increases with bowel movements (7) & (8).
