Causes & Risk Factors

The exact causes for the disease are not known but suspected causes of Trigeminial Neuralgia include:

1. Compression of the trigeminal nerve by a blood vessel.

2. Compression of trigeminal nerve by a tumor.

3. Multiple sclerosis leading to demyelinating plaques involving a trigeminal nerve.

4. Stroke affecting the lower part of brain at the spot where trigeminal nerve enters the central nervous system (6).
