Cervical Cancer Symptoms

Unfortunately, precancerous changes within the cervix cells and early stages of cervical cancer are asymptomatic (showing no symptoms). Cervical cancer symptoms occur when the cancer has reached an invasive stage or it has affected adjacent structures.

The most common signs and symptoms of cervical cancers include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding.

  • An abnormal vaginal discharge that includes blood spots or light bleeding. This abnormal discharge occurs between periods.

  • A longer menstrual bleeding period or an increased amount of blood lost during menstruation.

  • Bleeding following intercourse, douching, a pelvic examination, or after menopause.

  • Pain during intercourse.

  • Pelvic pain.

However, these symptoms can also be caused by other medical conditions. Only a doctor can establish a cancer diagnosis.
