Types of High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Basically there are two types of hypertension:
Primary Hypertension:
Primary hypertension or Essential HBP or
Idiopathic hypertension does not have an
identifiable cause.
Secondary Hypertension: Secondary
hypertension has a definite cause (1).
Apart from the above two types, there are other rare
types of hypertension that include (4):

Malignant Hypertension: This is a severe
and rare type of hypertension with internal bleeding of the retinas
in both the eyes and swelling of the optic nerve (called papilledema)
requiring emergency care (5).

Isolated Systolic Hypertension: In
this type, the blood pressure of the body increases very gradually
and is very mild. Difficult to detect. (6)

White Coat Hypertension: In this type,
high blood pressure is detected when measured outside of the patient's
normal, home environment (white coat refers to Doctors white
coat) (7).

Resistant Hypertension: This is a high
blood pressure that does not respond to treatment and remains elevated
above treatment goals (8).
