Types of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Based on their symptoms, there are three types of IBS:

1. IBS with Constipation: Some of the symptoms of this type of IBS are stomach pain and discomfort, bloating, gas, nausea, dyspepsia, infrequent bowel movement, lumpy/hard stool, constipation alternating with normal stools or constipation alternating with diarrhea and stool containing mucus.

2. IBS with Diarrhea: In this type, a patient experiences diarrhea after waking up or immediately after eating. Some other symptoms of this type include stomach pain, bloating, urgency, urinary incontinence, frequent bowel movement and loose/hard stool.

3. IBS with alternating constipation and diarrhea: Symptoms include both of the above two types. (5,6)
