Treatment Options

There is no cure for Neurofibromatosis and treatment is used to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.

Tumors or Neuromas are surgically removed. In cases where surgery is not possible due to the location or size of tumor, standard painkillers are recommended or X-rays are used to suppress the growth of these tumors.

Treatment of acoustic neuroma depends on the size and its growth rate. Auditory brain stem implant (ABI), a computer chip implant is used to aid hearing. In some other cases wherein the acoustic nerve is not damaged due to tumor, a cochlear implant is used to aid hearing (6).
