Electrolysis Hair Removal Information

Electrolysis hair removal is a process by which hair is permanently removed by inserting a very fine gauge needle into the hair follicle and destroying it with a small electrical charge. The object of these hair thin, needle shaped instruments (also called filaments, probes or wires) is to destroy the papillae [vacular connective tissue structures that enable hair growth]. Once the papillae and the follicle are destroyed, it won't grow hair anymore.

Electrolysis is the only hair removal method that is permanent. However, success depends on the skill of the operator.

There are three types of electrolysis hair removal.

  • Galvanic Electrolysis: Destroys papille by producing sodium hydroxide by the use of direct current through a fine gauge needle. The process is variably slow, and repeat treatments are often necessary. Also referred to as Galvanic and the Galvanic Method.

  • Thermolysis: The Thermolysis Method uses a high frequency alternating current (AC)and causes water molecules surrounding the follicle to vibrate, producing heat much like a microwave oven to kill the follicle. Thermolysis is also referred to as "high frequency," "high-frequency electroepilation," "Radio Frequency" (R/F), "Radio Frequency current," "Radio Wave," "shortwave," and "Short Wave Diathermy."

  • Blend Method: This combines both the Galvanic Method and the Thermolysis Method, either simultaneously or sequentially. It is also referred to as "the Blend Method" and the "Dual Modality."
