Obstetrics is a medical speciality concerned with the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate postpartum period. This dual specialty allows physicians to provide a wide range of medical and surgical care. Their duties often include: prenatal, pregnancy, and childbirth care, preventative care, treating sexually transmitted diseases, pap tests, as well as aiding couples who are having difficulties in becoming pregnant. With more training, OB/GYN's can subspecialize in: Gynecological Oncology, Infertility, Fetal Medicine, Urinary tract disorders and more.
